When it comes to getting out on the water in Conway Lake there is only one boat launch. The current boat launch, located at the beach in Center Conway has served the needs of many boaters over the years and through such service has suffered the usual wear and tear. Town officials, wary of extra costs have looked into alternatives for paying for needed repairs. One of the options is to allow the state of NH to take over the boat launch. This option would remove the financial burden of repairs from the town but also place the state in charge of managing the boat launch and traffic. So does this matter?
As a state boat launch, there would be free public access to the lake, which there is now. However, the town would lose the option to charge fees if desired in the future. Also the boat launch would be listed on the state maps of free boat launches, potentially bringing more traffic the launch and to Conway Lake. Of course boat traffic has increased on the lake anyway and the launch isn’t a secret.
Either way, one thing is for sure. Conway Lake has some of the best water quality in New Hampshire. You don’t have to go much further south to begin finding highly impacted and degraded water quality and water quality is of vital importance to those who have invested in lakeside homes on Conway Lake.
